Stay Legendary,
- The GFW Boys
There are moments in time that come with feelings of unrest. You cast into a nice deep run for half an hour without any action at all. A total blank.
The half hour turns into an hour. Doubt creeps into everything you do, and questions seem to permeate your thoughts…Do I have the right flies? Do I need to add weight? Am I getting the flies in front of the fish?
These times can make a fisherman feel like a teenage boy making his first play to talk to the crush of his life. Awkward, self-doubting, unsure. And the crazy part is that the longer the fish ignore you, the less you feel your worthiness as a fisherman.

Trip We are Dreaming About
Fly fishing in the surf off the beaches of Florida? Yes, please! With coast lines galore, the boys at GFW dream of feeling the sand between their toes, while casting a fly rod to cruising fish. Sounds like heaven!
What We Are Watching
Texas Flats
Here’s a cool little film from Nathan Leeper of Colorado Native. Being from Colorado, these are the trips within our sights at GFW. This film is a chill watch of some beautiful Texas fishing with lots of Redfish on the end of Nathan’s line. With a bunch of catching, this one will get you wanting to get down south!
What We Are Reading
As two of the boys from GFW have recently called it quits on their teaching careers and another has ventured out of the corporate grind, this book was recommended to help with the transition. Short and to the point, Riley Moynes offers valuable advice and provides important concepts to consider and think about as we navigate this huge transition in our lives. If anyone is considering a move in this direction, this book is super helpful.
Fish of the Week
Monster Brown from @argentinawaters in Patagonia
An incredible fish under the bluest of skies. This is how you make memories…another culture, another country, doing what you love!
Strike of the Week
A Prime Time summer strike from @mt_fly_guy
Fishing for trout in the Rockies is at its prime when big trout hammer hoppers! Nothing beats watching that big head roll up and over a fly sitting on top. Talk about great views…this one was so good it flustered the camera man!
One Fly Pattern
The “Dragon Tail” from Adam Lafferty @flyfish402
If you want big fish, you gotta use big bait! This sweet bait fish tie will surely hook you some monsters. Fly tying is an art form, and Adam is one heck of an artist! Thanks for this stunner.
One Cause to Learn About
Running Rivers
Conservation through recreation and the restoration of native fish to their natural habitat is what Running Rivers is all about. Combining the two is an incredible idea, as more and more people use our areas for recreation. At Running Rivers, the education of responsible recreation and the desire to return native fish to the rivers and streams they belong to is a worthy mission.
Running Rivers combines running, fly fishing, and craft beer into its popular Flyathalon Events, creating a community of like minded people who not only enjoy the outdoors in a unique way, but are also dedicated to keeping our precious fisheries and recreation areas pristine. Responsible recreation is vital to the survival of growth of the environment, and Running Rivers is inspiring us all to take care of what we use.
