Hot, Disappointed Fisherman

The Man Who Only Fished and Never Catched

Another day skunked on the water. Not the smelly animal kind of skunking. That would at least be a great story to tell when you got home.

No, this skunking is the embarrassing kind.

No fish caught all day. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

How are you going to explain this to your wife? Your kids aren’t going to brag about this to their friends.

You will go down in family lore as “the man who only fished and never catched.”

Trip We are Dreaming About

Credit: New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association

The size of the trout in New Zealand seem to always be in the “Hog” category. It’s like they’re all on steroids! Hopefully someday soon the GFW crew can get over there and experience the beauty and joy of hunting these monster trout!

What We Are Watching

Fly Outcast: Land of the Jurassic Trout

Although not super long, @flyoutcast crushes some big trout while showing the incredible beauty of New Zealand. An amazing cinematic short!

What We Are Reading

Music provides something in my life that can’t be met by anything else. It gives me the opportunity to explore, travel, escape, and live without judgement or fear. And ever since Spotify started doing the end of year Wrapped Top Artists, Tom Petty has been in my number one spot. As rock bios go, this one brings the authenticity of a generally wonderful human being and phenomenal song writer to light. Tom Petty’s songs will always live deep within my soul, and this book allowed me to get to know him and his journey on a more personal level. Warren Zanes does a great job of connecting us to person Petty was, in all of his wins and losses.

Fish of the Week

@redband_artworks with a Pretty Bow!

We all consistently hunt for fish that don’t quite fit in the net. This work of art gives us hope that it exists!

Strike of the Week

@intheloopmagazine crushes with this take!

Get up, Big Fella! What an amazing catch on film!

One Fly Pattern

A Beautiful Hopper from @flyghtclubarsenal

It’s Hopper time! Even MC Hammer would catch fish with this incredibly detailed hopper pattern. Nothing better than watching a fish crush hoppers.

One Cause to Learn About

The Cutthroat CO-OP

World Cast Anglers has created the Cutthroat CO-OP in partnership with the Grand Teton National Park foundation to support Cutthroat Trout research and conservation. Their work is so incredibly important to the conservation and preservation to the park’s only native species - the Snake River Fine-Spotted cutthroat trout.

GFW supports their efforts and you can too! A portion of proceeds from all Cutthroat CO_OP merchandise sales will be donated to the Grand Teton National Park Foundation Native Fish Conservation program.
