I remember when I first started fly fishing: I would show up to the water, look through my fly boxes (yes…plural), and stumble through all of the choices for what to tie on. I’d inevitably make a random decision, tie it up, and hope for the best.
My only objective was to catch a fish…

It’s hard to imagine the beauty of Maine even exists…but it does! And it has whet the appetite of the boys at GFW. The fall offers some of the best trout fishing times of the year, and what better backdrop is there for a bunch of trout bums!

The boys @reel.tales bring us to Maine’s North Woods. This is a beautifully narrated tale of their three-day journey in search of wild native brook trout and arctic char.

Tough times are unavoidable. Unfortunately, sometimes they seemingly come in droves. Pema Chodron offers some great advice for helping navigate the difficult times in life, surprisingly, in ways we never would have thought. Facing fear and embracing hardship for what it can provide opens the door for individual growth, and perhaps that’s what makes this such a great read.

Sometimes help is needed in places we never imagine. Rocked by the loss of one of their own to suicide, this article featured in Fly Fishing Magazine highlights the incredible work The Redside Foundation is doing to help the guiding community. It provides valuable insight into the plague of depression and suicide within the guiding community. Isolation and loneliness are issues worth our attention, and the Redside Foundation is providing access to free services to guides who may need help.
GFW continues to support the work of others in addressing mental wellness. We love what the Redside Foundation is doing and we think you will too.
