Trip We are Dreaming About

After having interviewed a few different folks from the area, the GFW crew is ready for an adventure to the Catskills. With their definitive dry fly tying style, we trout junkies desperately want the experience of fishing in this beautiful place.
What We Are Watching
The Last Day
We don’t like to think about time because we think we have so much of it. However, this short film by Josh Hardwick (Instagram | YouTube) featuring 73 year old Wyoming guide, Dayle Mazzarella, is a gift in helping us understand the importance of growth, human connection, and the richness of emotion.
What We Are Reading
From episode 16 of the Guys Fishing Weekly Podcast, this recommendation comes from our guest, Kevin Onsrud. Fishing in the sense that we are used to, isn’t necessarily what this book is about. It has fishing in it, to be sure; however, this book lays out the journey of author James Prosek, as he travels across the world catching fish in some of the most unlikely destinations. His book reaches far beyond just fishing, with his discovery of new friendships, romance and all of the unexpected that happens with travel.
Fish of the Week
An Incredible Tiger Trout from @mossycreekflyfishing
Haven’t gotten one of these beauties yet…but, I stress the word “yet"! The quest is an important variable for the adventure! Soon, I promise you that!
Strike of the Week
A golden beauty catching air from @gilbertrowley
Does that trout think it’s a Dolphin? Who doesn’t love a full blown fish-out-of-the-water take? Totally awesome! I wish they were all like this.
One Fly Pattern
“The Coffin Fly” from @Oryan999
Staying true to the Catskills Dry Fly tying style, this thing is a work of art. No doubt it will catch trout, but you’d just hate to see it get mauled! What a gem.
One Cause to Learn About
The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum
It’s incredible to think that these streams and waters have been around longer than ourselves, but that’s the reality. The anglers and pioneers of fly fishing have passed on these places through generations, giving their time, knowledge, and energy to helping the next crop of fly fishers understand the importance of such efforts.
Conservation to protect our fisheries and keep them alive is never finished. It takes a continued effort to maintain and keep up these incredible rivers, streams and lakes, so that we may some day pass the joy of fishing them on to our kids. GFW supports the efforts of this wonderful place, and we hope you will too! The history behind the fishing is fascinating and worth our attention.
