Stay Legendary,

- The GFW Boys

We were hiking in to the water we wanted to fish. Hot. August in Colorado can get that way. It’s amazing to be at 9500 ft and still feel oppressive heat.

“How are things in your world?”

“Can’t complain, I’m here aren’t I?”

This is one of the classic beginnings for a hike into some off the beaten path water we often seek to fish on GFW.

These times are like Gold.

The conversations that naturally result from walking together offer a richness that’s hard to find anywhere else.

Trip We are Dreaming About

Fly fishing for Taimen in Mongolia sounds like a hoot! After seeing pictures of the landscape, it has moved up the Bucket List of trips.

What We Are Watching

Fish and Film: One Morning for Versatility

In his first video of his newest series, Fish and Film, Dom Swentosky from @troutbitten, brings an informative film from a day on the river. Fishing with his photogenic four-legged love, Rivers, Dom demonstrates how to successfully bring fish to the net using different techniques. While catching fish using nymphs, dry flies, and streamers, Dom narrates his thinking, observations, and techniques for each style he uses. This is the value of what he offers.

What We Are Reading

Using the unfolding dialogue between a philosopher and a young man in search of understanding, this book helps us understand some of the things that hold us back from being truly happy. Based on the principles of psychologist Alfred Adler, The Courage to Be Disliked guides the process of self-forgiveness, self-care, and finding what truly brings us happiness…with not apologies. Finding true happiness is achievable and this read provides guidance to get there.

Fish of the Week

Beautiful Big Rainbow from Jake @lostcreekchronicles

Nothing better than catching big fish in small streams! Thanks for sharing this beauty from a recent excursion, Jake! If this doesn’t drive us to want to get out, perhaps we need a gut check!

Strike of the Week

Redfish Top Water Takes from @stellarangler_guide

Booyah! Redfish smacking the top for Capt. Ethan Bilderback @stellarangler_guide in North Carolina. Can’t wait to get down there for some of this action!!

One Fly Pattern

Sick “Yellow Sallie” from @bigskybum

We absolutely love this beautiful Yellow Sallie pattern from Kyle Bakko @bigskybum. Nothing beats throwing big dry flies to rising trout. And it is certainly that time of year in the Rockies!

One Cause to Learn About

Muskies, Inc.

You’ve heard the phrase, “If you want big fish, you gotta use big bait.” Well, Muskies, Inc is all about big! Started in 1966, Muskies, Inc has grown to become one of the largest conservation groups in the country, with chapters all over the country. With a steadfast dedication to conservation and the preservation of Muskie fisheries, these folks not only look to educate the current population of fisherman, but the future as well. Their legacy will make an impact.

As we seek adventure into exploring different kinds of fishing, the need for understanding different species of fish, their habitat, and how we can preserve it is important. This group was a pioneering influence in the practice of catch and release. We are happy to support the work of Muskies, Inc as we can’t wait to hunt some of these big boys!
