“On The Road Again”
To my wife’s dismay, I am not one for country music. Can’t really explain why, but it just isn’t for me, unless it’s in the form of Willie Nelson or Johnny Cash. In stealing the title of one of Willie’s greatest tunes, “On the Road Again,” it fits perfectly for one of my favorite parts of our annual Guys Fishing Weekend trips.
We road trip just about everywhere we go, because it seems to make better memories and provide us opportunities to connect in ways flying doesn’t.
Each year, we load up a couple of few vehicles, usually trucks, and hit the road for at least a few hours. Sometimes longer, but it’s usually a good three in the car together.
The connection that happens during this time is priceless. It’s where we update, get caught up on…

What We Are Watching
The Field Coffee Diary: To Catch a Baltic Salmon
One of the best story tellers out there, @rolfnylinder narrates this wonderful journey on his quest to catch a Baltic Salmon. Although it is one of his older videos, it is a true gem, highlighting the culture and scenic beauty that is Norway. What makes watching his films so good is the way he makes you feel, like you are side by side in lock step with him as he tries to catch a big fish.
What We Are Reading
Mitch Albom
Tuesdays With Morrie
This is a great book on friendship, mentorship and creating a relationship with intention. A book that revolves around death, but through that comes something beautiful. If you need a little refresher on, or an introduction to, life’s priorities, this is a great book to dive into.
Fish of the Week
Two Beautiful Grouper from Mark Strickland @saltwatercowboy_
Those are some pretty fish…and tasty, too! Mark will certainly be feasting after this awesome catch on a picturesque day out on the water. That’s what it’s all about!
Strike of the Week
A Barramundi Beauty from @triggsyfishing in Australia
A vacuum in fish form! From the build up, this take is incredible. Nothing like watching a giant wake follow what you are offering. Then…POW!
One Fly Pattern
The “Claret Sedge” from @kindale_fly_fishing
This stunner comes to us from Kindale Fly Fishing. The colors on this bad boy are insanely cool! Can’t wait to hit the table and get some of these in my box, as they are sure to catch fish!
One Cause to Learn About
The Wild Salmon Center
Salmon play an important part in the survival of the North West’s ecosystems. The folks at the Wild Salmon Center would argue salmon are at the epicenter of conservation efforts in this region. Protect salmon and you protect forests, food water, communities and economies.
Using the science behind important research, the Wild Salmon Center is the leading conservation group working to protect the wild salmon rivers across the Pacific North West. Their efforts to focus on the strongest rivers shows their dedication to lasting change, keeping these wonderful rivers in tact for the next generation of fisherman. In keeping with important values at GFW, legacy is important, and we support their efforts.
