- The GFW Boys
First times. First time anything. The first day of school. The first interview. The first day on a job. The first presentation in front of people. The first failure. The first beer. The first date. The first kiss.
The one thing every “first” has in common with another is fear.
It’s a weird emotion, fear. It can literally cause a physical reaction of profuse sweating and flushed skin. It can cause the mind to go totally blank. It can make a person stand still…frozen.
It’s powerful.
Like the first time you wade across a “full” river, trying to navigate the unstable slimy, mossy rocks. The force of the water forces each step to miss its intended target, causing you to wobble like a new born Bambi.

Quote of the Week
“Fishing provides that connection with the whole living world. It gives you the opportunity of being totally immersed, turning back into yourself in a good way.”
Trip We are Dreaming About
As the southern most trout fishery in the US, the Guadalupe River offers anglers a shot at some beautifully big trout. Although the trout fishing came come to a halt in the warm months of summer, there is no need to worry, as you can focus your attention on the monster stripers, smallmouth and largemouth bass. Any time we have a shot at multiple species of amazing fish, we are on board! Super stoked to get on the Guadalupe!
What We Are Watching
This is an incredible short film from @gilbertrowley. He provides us with a look into the quest for tiger trout feeding on Damsel flies. As one of the greatest sources of food for trout, the Damsel is one that’s not at the top of my list of go to flies. However, after watching this film, it will be. Gilbert provides incredible cinematography of feeding fish and the joy that comes with hooking them. The shots in this short film are absolutely amazing. If you’re like us, you will find yourself smiling throughout. This is a real gem!
What We Are Reading
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind
Recommended by our podcast guest, this week, Mark Walinske: “One of my favorite books... What I love about this book is it starts with this notion of how did we roll way back when and what has happened since that time and maybe what have we lost. I think it's a challenging book on that front. But what it does speak to is that we all need to be in a tribe.”

Big Take for @fishdeceiver
This take may not be the most vicious, but the end result is the thing we all dream about when a giant tugs on the end of our line. And the smile
One Fly Pattern
The Classic “Mickey Finn” from @fly_tying_with_ludwig
A true classic fly that as proven its worth over time, the Mickey Finn should be in every fisherman’s box. Thanks to Ludwig Outdoors for this beauty.
