The Release

She wasn’t being reasonable.

At least, in my eyes she wasn’t. There were tears, there were sobs, there was a lack of oxygen. Teenagers can be that way when their world is seemingly on the verge of collapse. It meant everything to her; why couldn’t I see that?

I have a way of casually dismissing things when I can’t find the importance of it. It could be anything from my daughter’s reaction to a negative comment she got on social media to my wife asking me which earrings I like better (which, by the way, you’d think I could pick correctly more often with a 50/50 shot)…”who cares?”

That’s my common thought when these seemingly trivial matters present themselves to me. Who actually gives a crap!

So, how does an aging dad, who is gradually losing his ability to be cool in the eyes of most, teach the ones he loves to deal with these seemingly little things of life by not caring?

Other Great GFW Content

Moving is never easy. Especially when it involves learning how to fish in new ways.
We aren’t perfect. So we make due…and are still able to see success!
Talking Single Malt, Fly Fishing and Third Spaces in Minturn, CO… Uh yeah!

Q: What is a favorite piece of equipment you have come across this year?

A: Temperance & Penn’s - CastHitch - Magnetic Fishing Rod Holder - This piece of equipment has been a game changer when rigging up for a day on the river. It gives you peace of mind that your rod isn’t taking a nap in your door jam, just to be rudely awoken by a graphite crushing door closing by your aloof buddy! We will admit that we didn’t think we needed it, but now it is a staple of our everyday fishing carry.

Trip We are Dreaming About

Lake Taneycomo, MO

Nestled in the heart of Branson, MO, this fishery offers world class trout fishing. Full of sizeable trout, predominantly rainbows, this spot is a beauty…giving fly fisherman hope of catching the “big one.” Fly fishermen will use their full arsenal of skills, as techniques vary. Fish are caught on dries, nymphs, jigs, streamers…you name it. We can’t wait to get out here and hook up with these hogs!

What We Are Watching

Idaho is a Must Visit: 4 Streams in 8 Days

This is a cool video from Drew Ross @looknfishy, a great DIY fisherman and content creator. Drew takes us on his truck camping and back packing excursions, as he explores the vast wilderness of the west living off the grid! His sense of adventure is inspiring and he knows how to catch fish! Thanks Drew, hope we can connect and fish!

What We Are Reading

The Feather Thief

This one comes to us from this week’s guest, Spence Neubauer. If you like heists and reading about true stories, this is a good one! It includes rare feathers, fly fishing and an intricate storyline. Spence says, “I read this book called The Feather Thief. And as a fly fisher, it's an incredibly riveting true story. It's really incredible, relates to fly fishing, and it's a really fascinating well written story.”

One Cause to Learn About

The Ike Foundation

As a stalwart in the bass fishing world, Mike Iaconelli’s foundation strives to serve underprivileged youth by connecting them to fishing and the outdoors. Any time we can build the fishing community and grow the next generation of fishermen and fisherwomen, it’s a great thing! The Iaconelli’s efforts are worthy of support.

With several different programs to get kids out fishing, like the AmBASSador program, anyone has the opportunity to help volunteer time and resources. Giving back to the community that has served them so well, the Iaconelli’s are doing a great job to grow this sport we love so much.
